Dear Sir David Attenborough,
Some of my fondest memories as a child have been spent sitting around the t.v. watching many of your documentaries and become ever more inspired to pursue a career in animal biology and conservation.

It has been through your endeavour's around the globe and your captivating animal reporting's that I have found myself at the beginning of my zoological career, in hope that I can too make a difference in animal conservation, a mission that first starts at education.

Many thanks for the passion you have shown, which has rubbed off to be truly inspiring.

Good post, James.

It is always interesting to see how things influence ones choices in life.

I am an EE by training and was something that I did not originally wanted to do even though very early on in my life, there were hints of it. Back when I was in primary two, my teacher showed us how she could use a battery, a wire and a bulb and with all of them held in her hands, she got the bulb to light up. Viola. Magic.

For a 7 year old that was indeed magic. That set me down a path of technology and engineering but when I saw the black and white TV images of Armstrong bouncing up and down on the moon in 1969, I wanted to be an astronaut or atleast an aeronautical engineer.

Both of them are still out of reach for me and I am glad to have worked on to become an electical engineer. I have now taken a slightly different path instead of hardware, I am now promoting Free and Open Source software (and hardware) to people. All of that, I hope, will help push for the eventual ability to have cheap enough space travel for mankind.

Even though I might not be around when that happens, I would certainly want to have helped in that direction - all thanks to my primary two teacher!
